Baltic Aviation Academy request the attention of IATA to the age limits for pilots 2010.06.28

Aviation training center Baltic Aviation Academy asks IATA to comment the matter concerning the Association‘s position on the subject of the age limits for pilots.

The aviation training organization Baltic Aviation Academy is one of the leading and fastest-growing aviation training organizations in the Eastern Europe.

Baltic Aviation Academy has trained over 10 000 pilots and cabin crew members.

"We work with over one hundred of Russian and CIS airlines and have accumulated a substantial amount of data related to the pilot professional skills and experience, which depends, among other factors, on the age. We have noticed that in the countries with lower GDP per capita health-care system is noticeably inadequate or less demanding for the patients. Also, eating culture and customs, food product quality, high consumption of meat and low consumption of organic products may affect the average male age expectancy" explains Eglė Vaikevičiūtė, Chief Executive Office of Baltic Aviation Academy.

Based on the data, the average male age expectancy through death before 65 years in the less developed countries is significantly higher than in average European Union country. For example in Kazakhstan it is three times higher than in Greece. Due to the aforementioned reasons, health level and risk group of the same age pilots are quite diverse in different countries.

Having analyzed various recommendations, Baltic Aviation Academy founds that competing special-interest groups have used different statistics to support their positions for and against the mandatory pilot retirement age.

Baltic Aviation Academy would like to inquire for the opinion of IATA concerning the pilot age limits and their application in different countries.
